1. Blackpool Dance Festival

The world's first and most famous annual ballroom dance competition of international significance, held in the Winter Gardens, Blackpool, England since 1920.

2. closed position

In partner dancing, closed position is a category of positions in which partners hold each other while facing at least approximately toward each other.

4. open position

Position in which partners are connected primarily at the hands as opposed to closer body contact, as in closed position. The connection is through the hands, wrists, and fingers, and relies heavily on frame and the compression and tension of both partners' arms.

5. progressive (traveling) dance

A dance that significantly travels over the dance floor, generally in the direction of the line of dance. Examples are waltz, foxtrot, polka, samba. Compare spot dance, slotted dance.
